In January 2002, our oldest brother Jordan was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 10. Although a difficult time, our family found consolation in the overwhelming flood of offers of help, encouragement and prayers from our family, friends and even complete strangers. Our church community began a novena for Jordan’s healing specifically to Our Lady of Fatima since he had recently played the role of Bl. Francisco Marto in a Christmas pageant. It was due to this that our family began to form a strong and lasting devotion to this heavenly patroness. With a newborn baby, two kids under the age of eight, and the stress and worry from Jordan’s treatment, our mom turned often to Our Lady for guidance and strength and was an excellent example of perseverance, courage, and fortitude to us kids.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of Jordan’s
diagnosis. He has been cancer-free for some years now and our mother still
encourages our family in a devotion to Our Lady of Fatima. Every 13th
of the month from May to October sees our family attending the special Fatima
procession at our church, praying the rosary in thanksgiving for all Our Lady
has done for our family.
This year also marks the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima’s appearance to the three children and it is my brothers and sisters’ and my hope to surprise our mom with a trip to Fatima for this great feast. We hope to send her this year for her birthday in October. My mom once told me that she had promised Our Lady to do everything in her power to make a pilgrimage to her one day in thanksgiving for Jordan’s healing. Between raising seven kids, health problems and financial difficulties, my mom has yet to make this pilgrimage. It would mean so much to our whole family to make this a reality. Please help my siblings and I send our mother to Fatima. If you are unable to make a donation, please do keep us and our efforts in your prayers and we will keep you in ours. Thank you!
