President, Coach, of American Legion Hickory Post 48 Air Rifle Team. This is a youth development Marksmanship program teaching gun safety, education, enjoyment, and competition.
Start Date: August 12, 2019
Welcome to American Legion Hickory Post 48 Air Rifle Team
The American Legion Junior Shooting Sports Program is a gun safety education and marksmanship program that encompasses the basic elements of safety, education, enjoyment, and competition. Shooters use the .177 caliber air rifle. Both males and females through the age of 18 can participate, through Legion sponsorship; Handicapped youth are encouraged to join and participate, as competitive shooting is a sport that creates an equal playing field for all competitors.
Junior Shooting Sports is a three-part program that combines the Basic Marksmanship Course, Qualification Awards and Air Rifle Competition into a well-rounded activity.
During the past decade of this program’s continued fast growth, thousands of male and female junior
shooters have participated, with a perfect safety record of no reported gun-related injuries.
We are wanting to raise money to be able to take our athletes to CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program), Junior Air Rifle Camp next Summer 2020 in Anniston, AL for a week. We would cover all expenses for the athletes except for a $50.00 registration fee that the parents would have pay. We have been in previous years and usually cost us $600.00 per athlete for the week, that includes transportation, food, housing, and the CMP Camp Fee.
The athletes gain a lot of knowledge about the sport of shooting the air rifle and become much better competitors. Some go on to college on a scholarship and are on teams of major colleges. We had one such athlete that was able to do that this year. She earned a scholarship and will be competing on the Ohio State University Rifle Team starting this Fall 2019.
