Chicago, Illinois
Team Mission of Our Lady of the Angels (OLA) will be fundraising through the 2019 Bank of America Chicago Marathon and Shamrock Shuffle!
...And then there's me - I am joining these team efforts by running the 2019 Indianapolis Marathon in November.
Mission OLA has a special place in my heart. I first became aware of their incredible work by volunteering once in awhile through my parish, St. Clement. At the start of this year, I reached out to Sr. Stephanie about coming twice a month to help out preparing items for their food pantry, and it has been such a wonderful and humbling experience.
I now look forward to being able to support them in another way by doing something I love (running) to help raise money for the renovation project! Thank YOU for your support and prayers.
Here is a little bit about Mission OLA and the work our team fundraising efforts will allow them to do -->
Mission OLA exists to provide material and spiritual support to the West
Humboldt Park, Chicago- one of the most challenged neighborhoods in the United
States. The Mission feeds about 1000 families a month, provides additional
material and pastoral support to families, youth, and senior citizens, and,
most importantly, brings the love of Christ to a neighborhood
desperately in need of hope.
Funds will be used to complete
the renovation of the Mission's new outreach center to the poor in West
Humboldt Park, Chicago. The new outreach center will provide the very needed space for the
Mission's donation storage/ distribution, a handicapped accessible kitchen/dining room, meeting space for neighborhood and retreat groups, and a 60+
bedroom retreat center for volunteers and retreat guests.
