Africa has the highest rates of educational exclusion in the world. The system penalises girls, who are more likely than boys to stay out of the school. I might quote organisations such as UNICEF. However, I will tell you directly the cause moving me to this campaign.
When I was 8 years old, I travelled to Egypt with my parents: Christmas cruise. I had never seen all that luxury. One of the last days the guide showed us for a couple of hours a small village in the southern Egypt confining with Sudan.
When I arrived I got shocked: a lot of children running to us and begging for something we could not understand. The guide told us, that they were asking for "candies and pens".
That image inspired my life. I graduated in International relations and diplomatic affairs with specialization in Children's Rights and International Protection...but when you have that image in your mind the title of a degree is nothing. I told myself: one day I will come back and do something for those children. I want to contribute to the widespread of "pens" in Africa, since I cannot give candies!
Education against poverty.
