My name is Sarah Weiss. I am hoping to use this WonderWe platform to raise funds to help my dear friends, Ashley and Randy Oakes.
Ashley has cystic fibrosis. If you are not familiar with this invisible disease, here is a little background information. Cystic fibrosis, or CF, is a progressive, genetic disease that causes a sticky mucus to build up in the lungs, causing lung infections and limiting ones ability to breathe. This ugly disease ultimately leads to lung damage and eventually respiratory failure. While there has been significant progress in treating this disease, there is still no cure.
Ashley's lung function has deteriorated to a point where she has been ordered by her doctors to take an extended leave of absence from her job to focus all her energy on her health. Ashley enrolled in long term disability insurance through her job in November of last year in order to better prepare financially; however, she was unaware of a 12 month gap in coverage due to a "pre-existing condition" clause. Ashley has also looked into filing for her social security benefits and has learned that there will be at least a 6 month waiting period to begin receiving support.
Fortunately Randy is working, but with Ashley's increasing medical bills and the lengthy gap of insurance and social security coverage, the Oakes' are struggling to make their monthly mortgage payments, as well as paying for other necessities. With Ashley having Zero income for at least the next 6 months, the financial burden is only going to get worse.
It is my hope that, as a community of caring, selfless individuals who desire to support others, we can raise enough funds to pay the Oakes' mortgage for the next 6 months and prevent them from having to foreclose on their home.
As someone who has received overwhelming support from the WonderWe community for my own daughter's medical bills from brain surgery last summer, I know how much this will mean to Ashley and Randy. Any amount of support you can give is appreciated and will help tremendously.
Thank you for taking the time to read their story and for your consideration. Ashley and Randy are very grateful and humbled.
