Wise Elders Program is a program that serves around 100 seniors. Many of them need to have a case manager to help them navigate various systems – medical insurance, affordable housing, volunteer opportunities / meaningful activities, etc. New within this program are the Wise Elders Family activities. We work with elders who have Alzheimer’s and their families to provide information, resources and support.  We are in need of funds to support this program: $20,000 to provide high quality services to elders that include: case management, individual and family therapy, support groups, social activities, etc.

Thank you for your tax-deductible donation.

Centro Tyrone Guzman builds a vibrant, diverse and inclusive Latino community that belongs and contributes to the social and economic vitality of Minnesota. Our mission is to contribute to the well-being and full participation of Latines through education and family engagement. As the oldest and largest multi-service Latino organization in Minneapolis, we are a trusted leader and partner, serving more than 7,000 individuals annually through education, health and wellness strategies that build our community’s strength and participation.

Health and Wellness

All of our programs are framed around the World Health Organization definition of health, which reads: “a state of complete physical, social and mental well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” With this definition as a guide, we provide tools and resources to Latines of all ages about the many factors that influence health and engage them in shifting behaviors and accessing resources to support optimal health. Our array of services and programs are designed to be culturally responsive and are delivered by caring staff and volunteers who build the trust needed to support long-term change.

Education ensures a vital future for families in Minnesota and is a core strategy for Centro Tyrone Guzman. Our programs serve all ages, from toddlers to adults, with culturally responsive curricula that foster a strong sense of belonging and identity.

By targeting two critical phases of academic development—early childhood and adolescence—Centro Tyrone Guzman strengthens educational outcomes. With a Montessori education approach, we prepare our youngest early-childhood learners for success in school and life and ensure that Latine teens cultivate a strong identity by removing barriers to academic, social and economic success. Adult students receive assistance so they can finish their primary and /or high school degree.

Cultural Events

Each year Centro Tyrone Guzman celebrates cultural events that connect community members and help participants preserve important traditions from their countries of origin. Our cultural events include Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) and our Christmas party sponsored by Notre Dame Alumni Club and Toys for Tots.

Digital Center

Centro’s Digital Center allows  education and health and wellness program participants to use technology to: foster creativity and expression –in our digital photography class; leadership skills- through the Raices podcast project; and communicate with loved ones back home when elders learn and use e-mail and Facebook.
